Story of the Logo

Our logo is an anvil, which are used to hold metal while the hammer shapes it. In life we will come across hammers that God is using to mold us, so keep trusting His plan! #whatsyourwhy

Hitting a Wall as a Leader?

Hitting a Wall as a Leader?

I couldn’t even imagine how bored and unengaged our team was. The look on their faces told the story. When I would open up any topic for discussion, I would get blank stares.  A sure sign they were bored and going through the motions themselves.

Recently, I found myself hitting a wall in leading our teams. I was going through the motions. Keeping the same formats with our meetings was becoming boring to me. When I am bored, it is visible to everyone around me. When I am driven by vision and passion, our team sees my excitement and that excitement is contagious.

In my experience in leading teams, I have learned that whatever I am going through I can count on at least 50% of our team battling the same thing.

When you find yourself going through the motions in leading your team, it is time to clear the fog or risk losing valuable input from your team. So, how do you clear the fog in your team? It starts with you, the leader.

Here are 3 leadership hacks which help to clear the fog in me and eventually in our team.

  1. Get back to WHY:

Why are you leading your team? What prompted you to step into this leadership role? Can you remember a time when your passion was high with vision and excitement for your team’s future? Get back to your WHY. You as a leader need to revisit your why if you want your team to be energized with passion.

  2. Simplify your wins:

Make it clear for your team what constitutes a win for them. If you have no clear win for your team they will always wonder if they are doing enough. If it is going to take a year to hit your bigger win as a team, then try breaking it down into smaller monthly, weekly, and daily goals. Help your team be clear on how to win each day as they carry out their role with you.

  3. Reward the good stuff:

When we are leading high performing teams, it is important to reward what you want to be repeated. Find a way to reward your organization’s values being carried out, mission being lived out, or taking definitive steps toward your vision. Maybe, you reward your team with an excursion together, a dinner night out, or give them some needed time off.

Leading hurts when you forget why you are leading in the first place. Today, take the next steps to moving from boredom to passion and your team will be eager to join you every step of the way!
