Tip of the Week | 08/07/20

Hey everyone, I’m back with another series! This one is going to be giving you one weekly tip that I’ve found improves my life and I’m willing to bet will improve yours too. After all the longer blog posts, this is meant to pack a punch with one short tip that you can use in a practical way. So, without further ado, let’s jump into week one of our Tip of the Week Series!

Tip: Write down the top 3 most important tasks to accomplish every day.

This is a great tip I learned from Michael Hyatt1, that has helped me focus on my most important things I need to get done every day. In the past I have used to-do lists with an endless number of things that need to be done. However, what I’ve learned is that by choosing the three things that will get me a step closer to my bigger goals, I am able to focus better on those tasks rather than being overwhelmed by the never-ending lists. You may be saying, “I have a lot more than three things to get done, so why would I only focus on three of them?” What I’ve found is that it mentally gives me clarity to only focus on three things that will get me closer to my goals rather than stress about hundreds of things to do. So, this shift is more of a psychological one than anything. If you have days where you finish your top three things to get done, you can move on to smaller tasks, but each day should be focused on your biggest priorities and then work down from there. The last thing I will say about the three tasks is they should coincide with your bigger annual goals at a smaller scale. For example, if I wanted to run 30 miles without stopping at the end of the year, every day one of my top three tasks would be to run 5 miles, then 6 miles, then 7 miles, and so on, to get me closer to that bigger goal. Give this tip a shot next week and see if it helps you focus on tasks that actually matter in your life rather than focusing on the meaningless chores in your life. Come back next Friday to get another weekly tip!
